Every family deserves to feel safe, seen, and supported—especially in times of crisis.
Autism Support Unit (ASU) was founded with one powerful mission: to bridge the gap between emergency services, public spaces, and families navigating the complexities of autism. We know that when a crisis happens, time is critical—and understanding can make all the difference.
ASU was created by a father who deeply understands these needs. After his son, Liam, was diagnosed with autism, Christopher Szydelko saw firsthand how emergency situations could escalate due to lack of awareness, and how many businesses and institutions were unprepared to support individuals on the spectrum. Rather than waiting for change, he built it.
What started as an idea became a movement to bring training, resources, and compassion into the hands of responders, businesses, and families. Whether it’s creating custom profiles to help emergency crews respond with sensitivity, or offering specialized workshops to help businesses become truly inclusive—ASU is here to lead with heart and knowledge.
Emergency Response Training: We equip first responders with tools to recognize signs of autism, de-escalate interactions, and ensure safety and dignity for all.
Business Inclusion Training: We offer autism sensitivity workshops that not only certify your team but transform your environment into a more welcoming one.
Family Support: Our optional yearly registration helps families create personalized profiles, so responders are better prepared to assist loved ones in high-stress situations.
We believe that awareness is only the first step. What comes next—compassion, training, and practical action—is what we’re here to provide.
