A Mobile Sensory-Safe Space for Kids in Crisis

Families across Nebraska with children on the autism spectrum often face an unimaginable challenge: watching their child spiral during an overwhelming moment — in public, on the road, or during an emergency — with nowhere safe, quiet, or dark to go.

At Autism Support Unit (ASU), we believe every child deserves a moment of calm, even in chaos. That’s why we’re creating something that doesn’t exist yet: a reconfigured ambulance that acts as a mobile sensory-safe calming room.

This vehicle will travel to schools, apartments, community events, or crisis scenes where children need sensory relief. It will not transport patients; it will bring peace, safety, and grounding in moments of distress.

• Low-light LED strips controlled by touch
  
  

• Weighted items, sensory tools, and a secure space for de-escalation
  
  

• Staffed by trained individuals experienced with autism
  
  

• Designed to be available for rental when not actively responding to families or schools — allowing local organizations or events to use it as a sensory-safe space

We are inviting local businesses to become visible partners in this first-of-its-kind project. In addition to supporting children in crisis, sponsors receive logo placement on the Calming Unit, recognition on our website, and acknowledgment on social media.

Sponsorship Tiers:

• $500+ – Business name listed on the ASU website and a thank-you post on Facebook
  
  

• $1,000+ – Logo added to the rear doors of the Calming Unit + website & social media recognition

🔍 Transparency Statement

ASU LLC is not a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. This is a grassroots community project organized under a limited liability company (LLC). Donations made through this page are not tax-deductible and will be treated as business income used solely to fund the ASU Calming Unit initiative.

We commit to sharing updates, progress photos, and proof of fund usage transparently via our Facebook page and this website.
